Hygiene, Skin Care and Diet Maintenance for Acne

There is a very common misconception among people that acne is caused by dirt. It might have come from the fact that blackheads look as if dirt is stuck in the openings of the skin pores. The black color is actually not dirt but it is oxidized keratin. Keratin is a fibrous scleroprotein whose blockages of keratin cause acne to occur deep into the narrow follicles, where it is not possible to remove them by washing. So maintaining your personal hygiene is must as the oil build up in the skin pores, due to over active oil glands, tend to aggravate acne.

Recently, researchers have found out an association between skimmed milk, cream cheese and acne which is supposed to be caused by hormones. Studies also show that, the less you consume processed foods and glycemic foods, the less are your chances to be acne prone.

In addition to your personal hygiene and dietary restrictions, proper care of skin is very essential. Don’t give any opportunity to blackheads, whiteheads, zits, cysts or blemishes to appear on your skin. And even if they do occur, take some action soon. Applying tooth paste or fresh garlic paste on zits also work wonderfully.
